Sensory Learning That Supports the Whole Child
At Dickens Sanomi Academy, sensory learning is an important part of helping students understand, engage with, and participate in the world around them. Through hands-on experiences, movement, exploration, and guided support, students are given opportunities to learn in ways that meet their individual needs.
Building Skills Through Real-World Experiences
For many learners, sensory experiences can support focus, communication, self-regulation, motor development, and confidence. These moments help students connect what they are learning to real-life skills — from following directions and expressing needs to building independence, practicing self-care, and engaging with others in meaningful ways.
A Deeper Level of Support Through NEST
Sensory learning is incorporated throughout our programs, but it plays an especially important role for students in our NEST program. With a focus on individualized support, life skills, communication, self-advocacy, and independence, NEST gives students additional opportunities to process, practice, and grow in ways that support their success inside and outside the classroom.
